The first month sets the tone. Use this simple structure.
Before you start
- Agree scope, hours, rate, and payment terms in writing.
- Sign an agreement and, if needed, a confidentiality agreement.
- Set up access safely, with a password manager or role-based access, never shared in chat.
Week 1: Learn the business
- Ask how the client prefers to communicate and how fast they expect replies.
- Document their tools, key contacts, and recurring tasks.
- Complete one small task well and report back.
Weeks 2 and 3: Build rhythm
- Create simple checklists for recurring tasks.
- Send a short weekly update: done, in progress, blocked, and next.
- Raise questions early instead of guessing.
Week 4: Review and grow
- Ask what is working and what to improve.
- Send your first invoice on the agreed date, with clear line items.
- Suggest one improvement or add-on, priced separately.
